Ornamental Pine

This Christmas I have loooooved playing with the Ornamental Pine stamp set. It is such an elegant and pretty set to use. I had already used it for my Curvy Keepsake boxes, then I saw a card sketch idea using partial embossing (from Gina K) and knew this stamp set would look lovely with that.

This card has a Very Vanilla card base, and then I used the Delicate Designs embossing folder to place the line of embossing across the bottom third of the card, leaving enough room to stamp my sentiment in Cherry Cobbler along the bottom. I then stamped my pine cone in Chocolate Chip and masked it off so I could stamp Garden Green pine needles across it and this allowed it to pop off the page a little.

 Finally I spritzed the top of the card with a bit of glitter spray (not Stampin' Up!) and my card was ready to be posted out :)

You can still purchase the Ornamental Pine stamp set for another week but after that, it will be gone.

Endless Wishes

I think I have just managed to send out all hand made cards this year! I found a few designs that were clean and simple so that I could make several cards at a time. This Endless Wishes stamp set was fun to play with. I only used the Merry Christmas sentiments out of it but it had many more. Such a pretty, delicate set to use! I enjoyed putting a splash of bling on the snowflakes too.

Here are two colour ways, using Stampin' Up! inks and Whisper White cardstock. I stamped the sentiment in Cherry Cobbler in the first one, stamped in Old Olive, Metallic Gold Encore and Crumb Cake as well, then added Cherry Cobbler seam binding and a few rhinestones. For the second one the sentiment is stamped in Old Olive, the snowflakes were stamped in Cherry Cobbler, Metallic Gold Encore and Crumb Cake, then I used Always Artichoke seam binding to tie a bow and added rhinestones to some of the snowflakes.

The stamped images are popped up on Stampin' Dimensionals. I spritzed the card base (Whisper White) with various non Stampin' Up! glitter sprays.

You can still purchase this stamp set for another week. After that, it is gone!

Apothecary Art - Sympathy Card

It had been awhile since I used my Apothecary Art stamp set and matching framelits but I really love them. When I needed a sympathy card I immediately thought of them. I wanted to make the card with soft colours and do some individual colouring of the flowers, so this is what I made:

The designer series paper is retired now, but everything else is current.
The colours in the flowers are Pink Pirouette, Wisteria Wonder and Pistachio Pudding. The stamp is stamped on Whisper White in Memento Black ink and the sentiment is stamped on Very Vanilla cardstock then trimmed to be popped up on the main image. I also popped up the main image on Pink Pirouette. The whole card front is adhered to a Very Vanilla card base.

Aussie Christmas

Thanks to Vicki Hodges for today's punch art card idea! I have shamelessly CASEd your idea, Vicki, and three of us enjoyed making Christmas Koalas today at my craft class. There were a few tiny anxious moments when the pieces of the koalas were a little small and the hands a little shaky, but tweezers and persistence won out and we managed to make some adorable cards. Thanks for coming over to play today, Lesley and Jill!

We used loads of paper punches. And new designer series paper from the Christmas supplement. And Stampin' Write markers and a white gel pen. And the polka dot embossing folder.

What I like a lot is the versatility of the punches. The little claws were made with Star punched shapes, for example. And the noses were cut down Word Window punches. Let me know if you cannot figure out which punches we used and want to make this card yourself. Remember, you can always order your supplies from me at SusanSalutations.

Anniversary

It was our 18th wedding anniversary this month and i had an idea for a card using the Lovely as a Tree stamp set. I could not find my Lovely as a Tree stamp set though! In the end I turned my craft room upside down and was finally rewarded with my long lost stamp set. I had put it away very safely them promptly forgotten where it was. Needless to say, it is now in a very visible place in my craft room.

I wanted to make a soft blue card and had the idea of shading the tree with my Stampin' Write markers, then to add light filtering through the tree. That was the idea, anyway. I coloured my image with some different markers (Island Indigo, Old Olive and one other) then lightly spritzed the stamp with water before stamping my image onto Whisper White cardstock. I used my silver pen to add the subbeam. Maybe I should have used gold, for sunlight, but the blue and silver just looked right together so I went with that. Maybe I should have added the light from the light side of the tree too, but this is how it turned out:

 I embossed the front of my card with a striped embossing folder then layered my image on two different colours of cardstock before drawing a double line around it on the Whisper white. I anchored the corners of my top image with Candy Dots. The greeting came from the And Many More stamp set. I rounded two opposite corners of the card with a corner rounder punch. Finally I added some seam binding ribbon to the bottom.

I added special things to the inside of the card, printing off a recent picture of us both and writing him a poem just for him. It was lovely to see his face when he opened his card (I think I even saw a tear, but of course he said he just had something in his eye!)and it is still on display so I know he liked it.

The supplies I named are still current. The unnamed cardstock colours are retired.

October Craft Class on Saturday

I decided to hold a special Saturday class this month in addition to the one I have next Tuesday so we could make some Christmas projects and allow one or two new people to join in. It was lovely to sit and chat and craft with friends :) Thank you for being here, ladies! You know who you are!

We made two (all Stampin' Up!) projects this time. The first one was a simple Christmas card with cute little houses and imaginative backgrounds. Thanks to Gina K for the embossing sketch idea:

We masked the embossed band area and sprayed it with Shimmer Mist created by adding some retired Stampin' Up! shimmer paint to some Isocol alcohol and shaking it up in a small spray bottle with a fine nozzle.

Next we played with the Curvy Keepsake Box die and various stamps to make some cute treat boxes. I have so many more things to try with this sweet little box shape!

 The Baked Brown Sugar box was stamped with the Dictionary background stamp, inside and out, before placing a stamped Pansy Punch shape inside to be a surprise. (The chocolate covered hearts were not from Stampin' Up!) Some Bermuda Bay thick Baker's twine and some die cut tags in Pistachio Pudding and  Crisp Cantalope finished it off. I think this one would be perfect for your sweetheart on your anniversary :)

I embossed this one with the Pretty Print textured embossing folder (currently on the Clearance Rack in my Stampin' Up! shop) then put pink wrapping paper inside the vellum box to add colour to it. The thick Baker's Twine in Strawberry Slush, double tied, completed the fresh and pretty look.

NOTE: If you are going to emboss vellum cardstock, you might need to use another layer of vellum (a vellum shim) inside your embossing folder to avoid having split vellum. If you get a small split, you can 'repair' it with a little doubles sided adhesive. On the inside, use a piece to repair the split, peel off the backing and remove the stickiness by puffing it up with the Embossing Buddy. It practically disappears! Thanks, Embossing Buddy! :)

This vellum Curvy Keepsake box was stamped in Blackberry Bliss with the Ornamental Pine stamp set. We tied silver ribbon on it and added some more vellum die cut tags stamped in Real Red ink. We also placed a battery operated tea light inside it (also not from Stampin' Up!) Imagine this one gracing your Christmas table settings!

Whew! That was enough fum for one morning! lol! Not really. I went on to add a few more touches to the plans fro our Tuesday class, where more Christmas projects and a mini album will be created.

I've been stamping. Here's a little something I made in the last week or so for some special grandsons of mine: 

 

Punch art inspired by another demonstrator, Melissa Banbury from Canada. The only free-hand cut bits were their masks and tongues, but even then I used a circle punch to get even curves on the edges of the masks right. 

I was so pleased that one of my grandsons was actually wearing a Ninja Turtles t-shirt  when I saw him last, so the card hit the spot! Lol!

Creative Blog Hop

I am honoured to be asked to participate in the Creative Blog Hop by my stamping and crafting friend, Vicki Hodgman from Cards on the Table with Vicki. I met Vicki on the Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator site and we have enjoyed visiting each other’s blogs and chatting for some time now. We really must meet up in person one day, Vicki! The Creative Blog Hop asks us to answer 4 questions about ourselves and is a way of introducing you to somebody else and learning a bit more about each of us.

WHAT AM I WORKING ON NOW?

Right now I am working on putting a class together for October that is Christmas themed. I love all the new products from Stampin’ Up! that are coming out just for Christmas. I want people to be able to make some cards and maybe a new Christmas decoration on the day, so will be working on making something three dimensional.

HOW DOES MY WORK DIFFER FROM OTHERS IN MY GENRE?

I am not sure that it does, other than the personal choices I make about colour, embellishment, sentiment and style! Lol! I do love to find someone else’s work that I admire then out a new spin on it. Each of us really puts themselves into their work, don’t you think? I do love to make three dimensional items and differently constructed greeting cards so am always excited when I find someone had created a new style of card and just have to try it out myself.

WHY DO I CREATE WHAT I DO?

I love to make people smile with my creations. It is so much fun to try my hand at new techniques and play with new products. It is doubly enjoyable when people appreciate what I make for them or want to make something like it themselves. Even though I am not necessarily an artist, I do feel it gives me a creative. artistic outlet when I craft, and I need that.

HOW DOES MY CREATIVE PROCESS WORK?

When I make something for someone, I like to know what their favourite colours are first. Then I like to know what their hobbies and interests are, or what special event is being celebrated. I consider whether their style is modern, vintage, fun or fresh, and I try to make something in the style they would like. I spend a lot of time looking at other people’s work on Pintrest, blogs, galleries, Facebook and Youtube. I save people’s work that attracts me and then revisit it when I want to create. Often I am inspired by someone else’s work but the finished project usually turns out to be a little to a lot different from theirs.

Now I have the pleasure of introducing you to two other amazing fellow Paper Crafters.
Both these ladies have great style and enthusiasm for their craft and are always positive and helpful.
I am glad to have had the opportunity to "meet" them online. Their blogs are definitely worth visiting too! I hope you will!

Hi, I am Lesley Jendra and I was honoured to be asked to be part of this blog hop by Susan Luke. I started scrapbooking back in 2001 after our 2 daughters got married and I wanted to scrapbook their wedding photos. We had previously owned a photography business so had put together hundreds of wedding albums but had seen some scrapbooking and wanted to do something special for these wedding albums. I started attending classes, then started card classes as well. I haven't stopped since. In 2009 I discovered Stampin' Up! at a craft show and I was hooked and I became a demonstrator. I had never stamped before despite all the cards and scrapbooking I had done, and hadn't realised how much you could do with stamps.  It makes it so easy that Stampin' Up! coordinates everything from paper, inks, embellishments, punches etc.  I currently teach card and scrapbooking classes which I thoroughly enjoy being able to pass on whatever I can to other ladies who have the same passion about craft as I do.

 I live with my husband Ian in a disability bungalow; we moved here when I could no longer manage to climb stairs, it is small but perfect for what we need now.

I have a daughter Maria who gave me three beautiful granddaughters, Gemma, Victoria and Natalie. Gemma has given me two wonderful Great Grandsons, Jack and Brody but she is expecting another boy November 15^th, Victoria has given me the joy of a Great Granddaughter Charlie-Mae who is the eldest.

I am known as "Lady" Anne this is because my family knew how much I love Scotland and bought me a small piece of land in Scotland which came with a title of Laude/Lady for a woman and I thought I would use it for all things internet, it does seem to be leaking into my everyday life these days *laughing*

I have always loved stationary of any sort so it hasn't surprised me that I took to card making and mini album creating, my other love is art but have never been any good at it except putting colours together which I am very particular about, I hate some colours together even in food *smiling* but love all colour and blending same colour tones together. I have found a joy in making mini albums and have created a few now. I love Graphic 45 Papers but I also love pretty feminine papers.

Ian & I live in a village called Sileby ( my nick name for it is: silly-b) in the East Midlands of England.

Speaking of being creative, now I shall share a new project with you all. It’s a birthday card I made for my lovely sister. She loves bright colours so I chose bright orange and yellow to bring some cheer into her day. I wanted to use the new Stampin’ Up! Blendabilities but have so far only bought the green range, so I used them for the leaves and my Copics for the flowers. I added some Spica pen to the leaves and now think maybe I shouldn’t have done as it looks very un-blended in the photo. It didn’t seem to be like that in person! Oh, and the designer series paper is retired.

Christmas Card Swap

I am taking part in a Stampin' Up! team swap of Christmas cards where I made 8 of the same card to swap with 7 or 8 other people. I should wind up with 8 different cards this way. I will share the card I made soon but want to wait till the people I swapped with get to see it first. That should happen within a week or so. Zoo Babies

Welcome to those who have stopped by from Vicki's blog as part of the Creative Blog Hop - and a big thank you to Vicki for inviting me to join in! Please come back next Monday to see my answers to the four questions as part of the Hop.

I have had the cute Zoo Babies stamp set for awhile now and had not chance to play with it till a recent class. I just love the cute little animals! They go together so well in a card with a nine square layout and of course it turned out that the crocodile got to do the honours and hold up the greeting. Wasn't that good of him? Lol! I know, I am slightly crazy when it comes to cardmaking at times and especially when I sound like I talk to my stamps.

Paper Wallet for Gift Giving

Do you sometimes wonder what to get the person who has everything? So do I. That's why I revert to using gift cards and cash at times. It seems so cold to give a plain card with such a gift. I think it makes such a gift much more special if you make a gift out of the card at the same time.

That's why I found a way to make a card wallet. You could customise this idea for men or women, young or old! Add more than gift cards - photos, notes, gift cards promising meals or cleaning or shopping, all seem to be well-received.

Here are instructions for making a Card Wallet:

Wallet cards

Outside Wallet –cut cardstock 9”x 3 ½” (round corners)

Inside Wallet –cut cardstock 8 ½” x 3 ¼”

Left inside – cut cardstock 4” x 2 ¾” (pencil ¾” all round on the back and use 1 3/8” square punch to punch window)

Right inside        - middle piece: cut cardstock 4 ¼”x 2”

                            -  front piece: cut cardstock 4 ¼”x 1”      

Sponge all the edges with ink slightly darker than your cardstock.

Cut a piece of acetate 2”x 3” and adhere to window.

If you want to do faux stitching it is easier to do it now. Place pieces of wallet together and carefully pierce around inside pieces. Complete wallet by taping outside and bottom edges to each other ensuring you can still pop cards and notes in the pockets.

Stamp ‘patch’ in spare cardstock and after doing faux stitching if you are doing it adhere to front.

Paper Cake!

Thanks to a lovely blog called eWillow, I found a great template for a three layer paper cake last week. Since I needed a special favour for a special High Tea birthday party at Tea and Niceties (it was soooo yummy!) I decided to make one of the layers for my 9 friends attending. The middle layer of the template worked out to be a lovely size to hold some chocolate hearts and friendship quotes and it also had 11 slices - more than enough in case an unexpected guest arrived! I decorated the tops of each slice with some designer series paper that I embossed. I made a spiral rose for each slice and found the centres were just the right size to hold a birthday candle (WARNING: Never actually LIGHT the candles if you are going to make a cake like this! Paper and fire are a dangerous combination!) and I tied each slice closed with some retired ribbon I had. That made each piece look like a layer cake! The slices needed some bling of course, so I added some rhinestones to each one.

To keep the slices together, I then tied the whole cake together with a piece of gathered pink ribbon :) I thought it needed a centrepiece too, so I made one using one of the chocolate hearts, some silver ribbon, netting and Pink Pirouette cardstock punched with the scallop circle punch. It was attached to a piece of wooden skewer to I could stick the centrepiece into the middle space and it would not move around too much.

The roses are all sponged with Melon Mambo ink, and the cardstock rose colours are So Saffron, Soft Sky and Blushing Bride. The slices are made of Melon Mambo cardstock and matching designer series paper from a stack I had.

There was even enough cake to leave a slice with our lovely Tea and Niceties hostess!What a beautiful and memorable day it was :)

Owl Card in a Box

Special birthdays deserve special cards, I think, so when a friend had one of those special birthdays, I remembered that she loved owls. Her favourite colours were inks and purples. And she appreciates handmade things. Her card in a box almost made itself after that!

I stamped out some flowers from the Flower Shop stamp set because those images can be punched out with the Pansy Punch. I made my owl with the Owl Builder Punch. I punched out a little heart from some silver glitter paper. The sentiment is from the Create a Cupcake stamp set, and I used oval punches to mount it. The stems for the flowers are doubled pieces of cardstock glued together and trimmed.

 

The colours I used in this project were the new Blackberry Bliss, old favourites Smokey Slate, Melon Mambo, and  Pistachio Pudding. I also chose some designer series paper from the Moonlight paper stack and added some that is now retired as well. My fringe scissors came in handy to make the grass.

The new Fast Fuse Adhesive came in handy to make the little box!

Pretty Wedding

A Grandmother's love for her granddaughter led her to ask me for a very special card to be made for her wedding. The colour pink was requested, as was some vellum and embossing folder work. The decorative theme of the wedding was birds, so when I put all these ideas together with knowledge of my supplies (current and retired!) I created this:

First I took some Blushing Bride cardstock and formed my card base. I prepared some non Stampin' Up flowers that I sponged and enhanced with leaves from the Bird Punch. I stamped with a retired set on the back of a white vellum cardstock sheet then coloured it with Stampin' Write markers before sandwiching it between oval frames. The card front was embossed after I cut out the oval shape and before I added the vellum image. I tied the flowers and punched leaves together with Organza Ribbon then adhered them with Mini Glue Dots.

The Expressions Thinlit word is on the Clearance Rack if you want to order any before they disappear forever.

After i made the card, I realised it was very three dimensional and would not fit into an ordinary envelope. So I brought out my Envelope Punch Board and made a card box from some matching designer series paper. That seemed to need extra embellishment so I broke out my Gift Bow Bigz Die and made a matching paper bow from Blushing Bride cardstock, then used my Hearts A Flutter Framelits to make a little heart enhancement under the bow, and attached them both to a belly band.

I hope you enjoyed seeing how I created a special card gift for a grandmother to give her lovely granddaughter on her wedding day :)

Punch Art Camera Card

Here's a fun handmade greeting card to make. I used a variety of punches to make this one, and i was inspired by many other cards like this on the Internet, so thank you to everyone who made one of these and shared it! This particular card became the one I gave a dear friend who just had his 100th birthday. I altered it to make the 'No 1' read 'No 100' . I think it went over alright! My birthday friend is still going strong and was able to entertain us with singing a song and playing a bass cello in his orchestra with his musical friends. It was a wonderful afternoon of celebrating!

Easel Cards

Card class day is always a fun day of chatting and laughing and crafting and eating. Lol! We even had some interesting foods today - dukkha and flavoured oils with breads, a new type of dip with crackers, and homemade raspberry muffins. Yum! Everyone brings something to eat when we get together to make our cards.

Today I had a request to learn how to make easel cards. They are easy cards to make, once you know the trick.  Start with a normal sized card, then fold the front inward at the mid point. Attach another flat piece of cardstock the same size as the card front to the bottom of the fold. Add a 'stopper' inside the card to hold your easel up, and voila! You have an easel card. Here are some instructions in pictures for you as well.

Anniversary in Paris?

I have a wonderful friend who just loves all things Parisian. Her husband asked me to make a card for their anniversary this year so it was not difficult to pick a theme. Both of my friends love the colour red, so I had no problems with choosing a main colour! I used a retired stamp set or two and some retired elements as well. Thank goodness I have a secret stash of retired Stampin' Up! sets and elements to draw on for such an occasion as this! LoL! I just need more storage space to keep all my favourite things is all.
To make the scene, I sponged around a 'cloud' shape I cut out from ordinary stationery coupled with a punched circle shape to make the sky with its moon and sponged over a torn piece of paper to make the ground. The Eiffel tower is embossed in silver and 'Amour' is embossed in Cherry Cobbler. I used Real Red, Island Indigo and Whisper White cardstock, a doiley and some Cherry Cobbler Baker's Twine, plus a retired silver and crystal embellishment. The base card is embossed with a retired embossing folder as well and the tags came from a retired kit I still had. I added some stationery to the inside of the card and stamped it with images from the retired stamp set as well.

I made my friends an anniversary card from my husband and I too. Here it is:

 

The Happy Congratulations stamp set I used is from the seasonal catalogue  (Celebrate the Everyday). I used Cherry Cobbler and Basic Black cardstock and inks. The sentiment is embossed in gold and the background papers come from a retired stack I had. I made the envelope with my Envelope Punch Board out of retired designer series paper. I thought the circles and stripes formed a bit of a theme for this card and envelope.

It's going to be Easter soon and I have seen a number of cute punch art cards on the 'Net with bunnies, chicks and eggs on them. One card in particular seemed to suit my sense of humour and I just had to recreate it.

Behold, a bunny card. A card with a bunny, but not a face. A card with a bunny disappearing down a rabbit hole!

 

I made this one with  Chocolate Chop cardstock and the embossing folder out of the Sale-A-Bration catcalogue, then added black for the bunny hole and Whisper White with Pink Pirouette for the bunny and sentiment. I glued some pink sequins to the card front to add some sparkle.
